2k a day for 2nds - Together we can Make 2nds Count!

My Activity Tracking

150
kms

My target 150 kms

I'm fundraising for myself and all the lovely people I have met through this community!!!!

Since being diagnosed with Secondaries myself 2 years ago, I have sadly seen too many women become part of the statistic; 31 women a day die from secondary breast cancer. Through this charity I have been introduced into a loving community who are great emotional support if its ever needed, who are funny and who speak plainly about cancer. I have been educated about toxic positivity and how to change the narrative away from being a warrior to understanding that cancer is not a battle, its a journey that nobody would chose. Its scarey sure but I'm still alive and incredibly grateful to be enjoying the adventure that is life. In honour of the women we have lost so far this year, I'm fundraising to help Make 2nds Count raise vital funds. With these funds they can continue to raise awareness of this incurable disease, fund research to find a cure and support all those affected by Secondary Breast Cancer.

Thank you in advance for anything you may donate. Even £1 makes a difference to a cause that I know very much appreciates it.

My Updates

Day 31. We made it!!

Wednesday 31st Mar
Oh my!! We made it and finished the 150km for March challenge! It feels incredible to have dedicated time this month to meet this challenge and thank you to everyone who has sponsored me and walked with me these last couple of days!! I didn't realise how hard this challenge would be so I am glad now that I can go for casual dog walks instead of mapped out walks. For this incredible and very personal charity, I would do it every day of the year so thank you for helping raise money for such an incredibly worthy charity!!! Xxx

Day 29. Last push

Monday 29th Mar
These last couple of days are my last push now that I am on the school break!! Will I or won't I make it?!? It's getting very tense 😬. I am determined to make it and look forward to celebrating with my feet up in a couple of days time 🍾🍹. (Also sorry for the sideways picture)

Day 26.

Friday 26th Mar
Thank you once again to all you incredible folk who have donated to help raise money for Make2nds count. I have 1 week left and plan on wearing my vest in pride the whole way through. Its been hard finding the time to complete this challenge around my work schedule but somehow we've made it! Your donations are what keep me motivated so I can't thank you enough for the kick up the bum. Please enjoy this photo taken on todays walk around Delapre... such a beautiful point of view!!!

Day 22.

Monday 22nd Mar
Out with my walking companion today and what a beautiful night it was. We got back to the warmth of the car just as the sun had set behind the buildings. Today I was given a beautiful surprise from family that was very encouraging and I am so thankful for all your support. Thank you, thank you and thank you again!! Xxx

Day 17.

Wednesday 17th Mar
Today has been a very busy day but I forced myself to go for a walk and was only 0.2km short so that will be made up in tomorrow's walk. I LOVE going for a walk to wake up my body after being sat at a desk all day. I am definitely not made for desk work!!! Thank you again to everyone who has donated it, you honestly are my motivation on days like today. I could have quite easily not gone for a walk but I cannot ignore the amazing funds that have been raised in aid of Make 2nds count!!!! Xxx

Day 13.

Saturday 13th Mar
Another beautiful walk in the sunshine today. I have a picture I took about 10 minutes after on the same walk of grey clouds and hale, but then the sun came out again and it was another glorious day! Thinking today about my journey to Make 2nds Count and forever thankful that their funding helps to make new drugs available specifically targeted at helping me and others in my shoes, to live longer!! Forever grateful for your donations!!! Xxx

Day 11

Thursday 11th Mar
So finding the time today to fit in a 5km walk was hard and unachievable so I have had to accept 3.1 instead. We did go for a walk in the rain but we got distracted  y trying to photograph 2 deer while we were standing as still as we could making no sounds. By the time we got out our phones they had run away boooo. I am not going to feel defeated because there is time yet and if living with cancer has taught me anything it is that sometimes you just have to stop and admire the view, which is exactly what we did before it got dark today! Xx

Day 8.

Monday 8th Mar
So didn't manage as long a walk today because it has been one very busy Monday. I will have to make sure I make up for that this week!! Don't like being in debt to myself. Thank you so much for all your continued support. It means so much to me that more people are wanting to find out more about secondary breast cancer. These conversations are part of the charity's aims so I am so glad to have the opportunity to help raise awareness. I have attached a video link below that shows you some of the incredible research you are helping to fund alongside patient support. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Xx

Day 6.

Saturday 6th Mar
Today we explored more beautiful countryside on a new walk route. Was nice to get out and about taking in the views. If you are interested in getting to know some of the brilliant ways Make 2nds Count help to raise awareness and support patients with secondary breast cancer, feel free to take a look at the link below. This will take you to their first blog looking at treatments of secondary breast cancer. Theh want to share with you reliable information surrounding secondary breast cancer and the available treatments. Nearly a third of people diagnosed with earlier stages of breast cancer will eventually develop advanced disease. Even though many people are living with secondary breast cancer, it can often feel that it is excluded from breast cancer campaigns. Research has shown that women with advanced breast cancer often feel isolated and 67% of them feel like no one understands what they are going through. https://www.make2ndscount.co.uk/news/advanced-hormone-positive-breast-cancer/

Day 4.

Thursday 4th Mar
Early update today after we have been on a lovely long walk around Riverside reservoir... no idea what its actually called if thats incorrect. So peaceful, we were even graced with sunshine 🌞 which was beautiful- 8.38km

Day 3.

Wednesday 3rd Mar
5km completed today 4km of that done on our walk and the other 1km done by walking around the living room and running on the spot 🤦‍♀️ . Xx

Day 2.

Tuesday 2nd Mar
This picture wasn't taken today but was taken at a time during the pandemic when going to hospital appointments to get my treatment was scary. This parcel arrived at my doorstep from the wonderful make 2nds count and little lifts and it made my entire week at the time and is still currently in use for my appointments. It makes having to go to hospital feel so much cosier and brings a familiarity that is hard to get when everything in the world is so different to how it once was. This is just one of the many beautiful and amazing things Make 2nds count does alongside funding incredible research. Just one of the many reasons I have chosen to challenge myself and raise money for them. Today I only managed 3.29 km on my walk but I will make up for it one day this week 😁. I am so grateful for all the donations that have been made so far! What an incredible bunch of people! Xxx

Day 1.

Monday 1st Mar
So today we went for a lovely walk/hike around Harlestone Firs and knocked off a great big 4.9km from my target of 150km. Not a bad start! Manny the dog joined me and slept the rest of the evening which is always a sign of a good walk. Let's see what I manage tomorrow.

Vest is here

Saturday 27th Feb
My vest arrived today and I am pleased to say that it is SOO big that I will be able to fit my warm coat etc underneath on the mild days. Rain, shine or frost I'll be wearing it everyday through March. Thank you to everyone who has sponsored so far, your help is incredible!!
